This is copied from Evertons Online Genealogy. (I have been a follower of "Everton's" for several years and found them to give good advice.) http://www.eogn.com/archives/news0340.htm
Follow-up: "Renewable" CD-ROM Disks from GenealogyTechs.com
Last week I wrote a Plus Edition product review of the "renewable" CD-ROM disks advertised in spam mail messages by GenealogyTechs.com. I actually purchased one of these to review it for readers of this newsletter. That review was highly critical of the product and advised newsletter readers to not waste their money on such junk. I also described the relationship of GenealogyTechs.com to recently-indicted Elias Abodeely, alleged operator of several genealogy scam Web sites.
Writing on the newsletter's Discussion Board, Jennifer W. noted that the GenealogyTechs.com Web site was shut down less than twenty-four hours after the article was published. The site remains down at this time. The only method of ordering these "renewable" disks was via that Web site.
I have no "inside information" at this time as to whether or not the site is down permanently, but I am sleeping better. |
