He achieved considerable success in the early 1960's in the UK Singles Chart where he had four Number 1 hits between 1962 and 1963. Born in England, he moved with his Australian parents to a rural area near Sydney about 1946 where he learned to yodel as he listened to "hillbilly music" while he was milking the cows. By the age of 19 he was the number one recording star in Australia. He returned to the UK in 1960. He began recording in the UK with some success. His first chart topper was "I Remember You" which stayed at the top of the charts for seven weeks in 1962. He broke in to the "US Billboard Hot 100" with his double sided success of "Lovesick Blues" on the A side (previously sung by Hank Williams) and on the B side "She Taught Me How to Yodel". His next hit "Wayward Wind, made him the first UK-based person to reach Number 1 three times in the UK in succession. The only other person ever to accomplish that at that point was Elvis Presley. At the The 2012 Canberra Country Music Festival, Frank Ifield was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ifield is still recording and was inducted in to the Coventry Music Wall of Fame in 2012. ~~ read more at Wikipedia or visit the official Frank Ifield Website |
